Bayelsa Teachers Praise Government for Payment of Salary, Back Verification of Pay Roll

Teachers under the auspices of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools    (ASUSS) has commended the Bayelsa State Government for the payment of 50 percent salary to workers in the state. The teachers also backed the on-going staff verification exercise. They expressed confidence that the verification will flush out ghost workers from the pay roll.

The Bayelsa State Chairman of ASUUS, Comrade Oyinemi Ebredemi disclosed this during a peaceful protest to the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Deacon  Markson Fefegha in yenagoa. Comrade Ebredemi noted that they were protesting the remittance of their monthly dues to Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and urged government to desist from doing that because according to the chairman, their umbrella body is ASUSS and not NUT.

Responding, Deacon Fefegha thanked ASUSS for their understanding and announced that Governor Seriake Dickson has approved the payment of January salary for ASUUS members by end of June. According to the Commissioner, the payment of the January salary is meant to bring the teachers at par with other workers in the state.
