Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, on Friday morning lost his father, Mallam Yusufu Buratai.Announcing the death, Nigerian Army Spokesman, Brig-Gen Sani Kukasheka Usman, said in a terse statement that: “This is to inform you of the passing away of the father of the Chief of Army Staff, Alhaji Yusuf Buratai this morning in Maiduguri.”
The deceased, a former personnel of the Nigerian Army retired as a non-commissioned officer in the West African Frontier Force.

Yerwaexpress, an online newspaper, said it gathered that the late Mallam Buratai had been hospitalized for close to a week for a kidney-related illness.

“He had a successful surgery in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH but gave up thereafter.”

According to the online newspaper, the late Mallam’s survived by 14 children, including the Nigerain Army chief.
