Those criticising the philanthropic disposition of the Executive Secretary, Delta State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Revd (Prof) Oke Akokotu, urging him to apply caution, may be literally pouring water on a rock as the cleric is ‘adamantly unrepentant’, describing his action as divine assignment that he cannot renege on.
Coming on the heels of the deluge of criticisms, counsel and, perhaps ‘unsolicited advice’ from individuals within the state and beyond against his philanthropic activities, the ‘man of God’, who is also the founder and General Overseer of God’s Own Revolutionary Church ( GOREC ) enjoined his critics to let him be as he is carrying out his God-given assignment.
Akokotu who stated this recently in Asaba, the Delta State capital, while receiving an award in that direction from a student body, “National Union of Isoko Students, Agbor Chapter”, said that contrary to people’s perception and belief that he was displaying egoism with his giving, “It is unfortunate that people have misconstrued what we are doing. This is indeed a divine assignment that we do not have control over
“This did not start now; I have been doing it even when I was ‘nobody’ in my little way. Then, I can’t spend any money above N5,000 without God’s approval; He will, punish me.
“Now, when I got this appointment, as this is the first time I am working for any government, God gave me a strange instruction that as long as I remain in government, 40 per cent of what I earn should go to the needy in the society. 30 per cent for His work while only 30 per cent is for me.
“Based on this, this year, 2016, God allowed me to use only three months salary for myself. And, because of the way I have been obeying this Godly injunction, since this year, more than 10 persons have called me as well as calling my wife to advise us that I should apply caution, warning us against what they described as over giving
“Well, as much as we appreciate their concerns, I want to state here categorically that what we are doing is not within our control. Since I got this appointment, God told me that I can no longer spend anything above N10,000 without His approval.
“There was a time I suffered strange cough for five consecutive days and in the midst of the challenge, God told me that it was my punishment for spending money without His aporoval; it is as serious as that.
“So, if I spend anything without God’s approval, I will be punished. And if I refuse to spend what he asked me to spend, I will also be punished. This is because, I have a special relationship with God. What people do and get away with it
