The Chief Imam of Brazilian Salvador Mosque in Lagos, Imam Jimoh Mubarak, has urged Nigerian men to ensure adequate care of their wives in order to receive more rewards from Allah.
Mubarak made the plea on Saturday in Lagos at the Nikkai ceremony between the bride, Ararat Salvador, daughter of the Lagos State PDP Chairman, Mr Moshood Salvador and the groom, Mr Ilkhanipour Payom.
The cleric said that what the wife would eat, clothing and other necessities of life must be provided by the husband.
“There must be a home to live and a work being done by man through which he earns his income.
“Whosoever comes forth to seek your daughter’s hand in marriage, you should give him, provided such a man has a job and a house to live,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes Mubarak as saying.
He advised that a man should not be promiscuous and should take care of his wife.
Mubarak recalled that Allah created Adam and Eve, adding that Allah created Eve from the ribs of Adam.
He said that since then, men and women were created, adding that a man could not do without a woman.
“We should respect and fear God. It is Allah that created day and night.
“ He created us to work during the day and go about our daily activities.
“He also created the night so that we can have our rest.
“ We should always give thanks to God,’’ NAN quotes him as saying.
Mubarak lauded Ararat for bringing forward a husband for the official marriage.
“The wife should not invite anyone her husband does not want in the house. The wife should respect her husband.
“I pray the God will bless this marriage,” the cleric said.
