Christians in Delta State who are billed to embark on pilgrimage to the Holy Land-Israel this year, have been told to justify the state government’s huge investment on the trip by becoming  good ambassadors of the state as they sojourn.

The Executive Assistant to the state governor on religious matters, Revd.  Greatman Nmalagwu gave the chargeThursday in Asaba, the state capital during a one – day orientation/briefing ceremony for the intending Pilgrimsorganised by the State Christians Pilgrim Welfare Board.

The governor’s aide enjoined the intending pilgrims not to see pilgrimage to the holy land as an escape route to Europe,  just as he charged them to represent the good image of the state and the country at large.

Nmalagwu while pleading with the intending pilgrims to uphold the sound moral integrity the state has always been identified with, cautioned them against involvement in any form of dubious character and behaviour that may smear the good image of the state.

He urged them to use the opportunity of their sojourn to the holy land to pray for the state government,  the governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, his cabinet and,  indeed the good people of the state.

He said, “As you are preparing for pilgrimage to the Holy Land – Israel,  you should go there and return, making the state government proud, the governor and indeed your country, Nigeria proud

“Within the few days or weeks you will spend in Israel, i urge you to be in unity and maintain sound moral discipline in order to give name and credit to the state government which out of the lean resources thought it wise to continue the sponsorship not Pilgrims to the Holy land.

“Again, and very important too, you should not go there to steal, nor see this pilgrimage as an escape route to Europe. So, you should not go there with the intention of absconding” Nmalagwu advised.

Meanwhile, he used the forum to commend the state governor,  Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for his Co mittenstowards ensuring that this year’s pilgrimage was not scrapped irrespective of the economic  crunch in the country.
