Yobe state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, on Wednesday said the only way to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency is by sustained community vigilance.
The governor who insisted that he is without an iota of doubt that by being vigilant some of the incidences of the Boko Haram attacks that is currently bedeviling the northeastern part of the country would be minimized.
The governor made this assertion while sympathising with victims of the recent bomb blast that killed 10 people at the Damaturu central motor park.
The governor, who visited the victims of the bomb blast currently receiving treatment at the State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, was conducted round by the state commissioner of health, Dr. Mohammed Bello Kawuwa who disclosed that 86 victims were brought to the hospital with various digress of injuries.
10 of the victims according to him urgently needed highly specialised care and were subsequently referred to the Medical Centre in Nguru and some were later referred to Kano for more specialised care.
Kawuwa also said all those brought to the hospital were treated free in line with the policy of the present administration in the state
The commissioner however said the death toll did increase from eight to ten as some of the victims could not make it.
Governor Ibrahim Ibrahim Gaidam expressed regret over the attack and called on the people of the state to maintain absolute vigilance to eradicate if insurgency completely.
The governor, who condemned the suicide bombing, expressed sadness that terrorism have become part of our society and called on them to collaboration with security agents towards ending the wave of attack.
He directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to take inventory of all loses to allow government take the necessary action towards compensation.
Gaidam also visited the members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state to sympathized with them over the incidence and assured them of every support.
It would be recalled that the blast occurred on Sunday when a Female suicide bomber blew off some passengers and merchants at the Damaturu central motor park.
