President Muhammadu Buhari for the second time since he assumed office, received briefings from service chiefs bothering on security as well as the Lake Chad Basin Commission’s meeting billed for Thursday in Abuja.
The meeting which held at the Defence House, Abuja, was behind closed doors to marshal the country’s plans that will be presented at a meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
Those in attendance were National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.); Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh; and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Ismail Aliyu.
“We have discussed the issue of the operationalisation of the Multi National Joint Task Force and the citing of its headquarters in N’Djamena and the contribution from various states.
“This is with the objective of fighting the insurgency within that region. Some issues came out that the president identified, he wants us to see the end of this fight for the purpose of peace, security and prosperity of the region.”
Buhari had vowed to defeat the terrorists and had ordered the military command to move to Maiduguri until the sect is destroyed.
