Mr. Patrick Obahiagbon, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Edo South Senatorial District has decried alleged defacing of his campaign billboards by members of the opposition parties.
Obahiagbon raised the concern while fielding questions from newsmen in Benin on Wednesday.
He said he was disturbed that his political opponents could resort to politics of “primitivism and crudity” by resorting to billboard vandalism either directly or by proxies.
He said such acts must be condemned by all decent and reasonable men in any civilised society.
“It is a sign that those who are responsible for these animalistic actions are already in a panic mood and are sacred of interfacing with democratic parapets.
“I have resolved not to be distracted but to remain focus and stay on the campaign issues.
“My teeming supporters are advised to refrain from any reprisal and we must rise above such primitive political gambits,” he said.
Similarly, the state chapter of the party condemned the act and described it as an orchestrated attempt to undermine the campaign efforts of their candidates.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Azebamwan, urged party supporters to remain vigilant to apprehend culprits and hand them over to law enforcement agencies.
“We as a political party are not unmindful of recent attempts by certain individuals to rubbish the visible and laudable achievements of our party.
