Former Super Eagles forward Victor Ikpeba has shared his opinion on the form of Ademola Lookman in the national team, especially in Nigeria’s latest 4-1 win over Gabon.
Reigning African Footballer of the Year, Lookman performed underwhelmingly in Nigeria’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Gabon on Thursday.
Chukwueze and Lookman started the game against the Panthers in a 4-4-2 formation but were both withdrawn around the hour mark having struggled to make an impact.
Chukwueze was replaced by Chidera Ejuke, while Moses Simon came on for Lookman.
Ikpeba noted that Lookman is still working his way back to form having missed the start of the season due to transfer issues.
“I will like to see more from Lookman, we have not seen the Lookman of old,” Ikpeba said on SuperSport
“We can understand, he’s short of match fitness and that form is not there yet.
“The likes of Chukwueze and Lookman, we need to see more from these two players.”
The Super Eagles waited till the extra-time before putting on their victory shoes against the Panthers.
Two goals from Victor Osimhen and an earlier strike by Chidera Ejuke condemned Gabon to a heavy defeat to Nigeria in Rabat on Thursday after the full-time had ended in a 1-1 draw.
Mario Lemina scored Gabon’s only goal to cancel out Adams Akor’s opener for Nigeria.
Nigeria now has a date with DR Congo in the final of the World Cup qualifying playoff on Sunday.
