Three staff of the Family Health International (FHI360) a non governmental organization (NGO) working in Ngala, Borno state have been abducted by suspected insurgents.
Two security guards doing their jobs outside the building were equally not spared by the suspected insurgents who kidnapped them Wednesday in Ngala about 150km from Maiduguri the capital of Borno State North East Nigeria.
The NGO workers said to be working for the FHI360 were kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday in a coordinated dark move by the suspected insurgents who came in armed in large numbers ready for a fight in case the military were alerted.
A security source told METROWATCHONLINE.COM that the terrorists suspected to be of the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) faction stormed the home of the humanitarian workers and picked their file coordinator and two others staff from their beds and took them into the belly of the savannah leaving other residents trembling in fear and praying it would not be their turn.
” They went to their house not far from ours quietly, armed to the teeth and rounded them up without firing a shot for the troops not far away to hear and counter them.
“Since then, we have been placed under red alert in the area because last Thursday, the Boko Haram fighters tried to attack an outskirts community in Ngala killing one civilian JTF in the process.
“We don’t know if there were others in their kitty but definitely three people are missing in the compound of the FHi3 and we are yet to have sanity in Gamboru since then.
“Sadly this is not the first time that they have been carrying out silent kidnapping attacks in the border council area with Cameroon.
“They have kidnapped several people silently in Gamboru and Ngala but most are not recorded because the people reach out and get their loved ones in time. Those young boys who do not have relations to pay up know are constricted into their cause.
“The last case known to me was the kidnap of an elderly man in broad daylight who did not spend much time with them because his family reached out in less than 48 hours with the ransom.
While the military has beefed up its vigilance, a source within the NGO of the abducted men who wanted to remain anonymous confirmed the sad incident in a solemn voice adding that they are yet to hear anything from the assailants.
