An Area Court sitting in Ilorin on Thursday gave a tenant, Alao Azeez, one month to vacate apartment on the request of the landlord, Mr Nasir Salman.

The presiding Judge, AbdulQadir Umar, gave the order on the request of the landlord, due to the tenant’s refusal to pay his rent for seven months.

The court said that the relationship between the two had shifted from landlord and tenant to owner and occupier since he refused to pay his rent.

“The Court said the applicant has the right to ask the respondent to vacate apartment since the tenant refused to stick with the agreement they had, by refusing to pay his rent,” the judge said.

He said that the tenant should pay all the rent before or on Dec. 31, as promised and vacate the apartment by Nov. 30.

The landlord had earlier told the court that he wanted the tenant to vacate his house, saying that he wants to use his apartment and to also pay his owed rent.

The tenant agreed to have owed seven months and promised to pay by December, but wanted to maintain the house until May 2023 when his annual rent supposed to expire.
