Manchester United Legend Wayne Rooney has advised teenage attacker Mason Greenwood to quit the club in order to re-establish his career.
The England forward has been barred from playing for the Red Devils since January 2022, when he was accused of rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault.
Charges against him, though, were dismissed in February. Regardless, he has been suspended by the Red Devils, who are conducting their own inquiry.
Clubs in Italy have shown interest in signing the England international on loan for the coming season.
“It leaves Mason Greenwood in a position where he is stuck,” Rooney told The Athletic.
“So for Mason, it’s a bad position to be in because I’m sure he just wants to play football.
“I think the best thing for Mason now is to get out of the club and go and develop somewhere else.
‘He needs to get back playing because it has been a long time.”
