One-time governor of old Abia State, January 1992 to Nov 1993, and former minister from 2015 to 2022, Dr Ognonnaya Onu, has died. He was 72 years. He was a presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.
Onu, the minister of science and technology under the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, was one of the longest serving Federal Executive Council (FEC) members in that regime.
A source, close to the deceased, confirmed the death to Tribune online on Thursday.
Onu, a former governor of Abia State, died after a brief illness in an undisclosed hospital in Nigeria.
Onu was a Nigerian politician, author and engineer until his death this April, 2024.
The Abia State’s former governor was the longest serving minister of the ministry.
