A mass shooting late Saturday night in Birmingham’s bustling Five Points South entertainment district has left four people dead and more than 20 injured.
The incident occurred on 20th Street near Magnolia Avenue, with Birmingham police responding to reports of gunfire just after 11 p.m.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald confirmed that “dozens of gunshot victims” were discovered at the scene, including four with life-threatening injuries.
Three victims—two men and a woman—were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth died at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.
Several other injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, some arriving in private vehicles.
“We will do everything we possibly can to make sure we uncover, identify, and hunt down whoever is responsible for preying on our people this morning,” Officer Fitzgerald stated in an official release.
