Iran Bombard Israel with Nearly 200 Missiles

Iran fired a barrage of nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday, U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters, in what Tehran said was retaliation for the recent killings of top Hezbollah and Hamas officials.

Sirens were heard across Israel as people took shelter, and streaks of flame lit up the skies.

Authorities have since said the attack is over.

Most of the missiles fired by Iran were intercepted with help from U.S. naval destroyers but there were “a few hits,” Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said.

Several people were reported injured. The strikes follow Israel’s killing last week of Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah, a key Tehran ally, and the start of an Israeli ground incursion into southern Lebanon.

Separately, seven people were killed and 11 injured in a shooting attack at multiple sites in a commercial area of Jaffa, Israel, according to medics who responded.
