Former Nigeria striker and 2013 AFCON winner Brown Ideye has signed with nine-time Nigerian champions Enyimba till the end of the 2024/25 season.
Ifeanyi Ekwueme, the Aba giants’ sporting director and an ex-international, verified this to Newsmen on Tuesday.
“Yes, the talks have been going on for a while and we completed it yesterday,” Ekwueme said.
“He will be with us until the end of the season and we believe he will bolster our team’s attack as we compete in the league and the continent.”
Ideye, 36, has been without a club since departing Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022, but he is now ready to return to Nigeria’s top division, following former international colleagues Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu, who are presently playing for Kano Pillars.
The move also marks Ideye’s return to the domestic scene 17 years after leaving Ocean Boys in 2006.
Ideye was on the verge of joining former league winners Rivers United in October, but the deal fell off.
Enyimba has two key local and continental matches in the next five days, first against Sunshine Stars in a postponed NPFL encounter on Wednesday and then against Black Bulls in Maputo, Mozambique, in their third group game in the CAF Confederation Cup.
