The US Mission to Nigeria has revealed that its home government intends to review how previous aid granted to Nigeria and other nations was used.

This was disclosed in a post on its verified X account on Tuesday.

“Comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to help verify that U.S. assistance reaches intended recipients,” the mission stated.

“The United States condemns the violence and blatant disregard for human life perpetrated by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in Nigeria and the region.”

The announcement follows charges by US Congressman Scott Perry that USAID has sponsored terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram, to the tune of $697 million every year.

Some Nigerian security professionals and diplomats have expressed alarm about the allegations made.

This move follows growing calls for a comprehensive review of how USAID health funds have been spent.
