Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has hit out at his political party, the All Progressives Congress, saying they performed woefully in Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State.

The VP appears to be taking a swipe at the administration of former Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who has now left the APC and joined the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

According to reports, for years, the Southern Kaduna region was plagued by insecurity with resultant incessant killings, making life unbearable for farmers, traders, and families.

However, there is now a permanent security presence, which many believe will deter attacks, enhance safety, and restore confidence among the people.

Tinubu’s appointment of General Christopher Gwabin Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff has also contributed to the relative peace in the region.

Among other things, Tinubu approved the establishment of a military barracks in Samaru Kataf, establishment of a Federal Medical Center in Kafanchan, and the approval of the Federal University of Applied Science in the region.

According to reports, Bashir El-Rufai, son of Nasir El-Rufai, had to issue an apology at some point after his incendiary comment on the killings in Southern Kaduna triggered widespread condemnation.

Bashir had posted a controversial remark suggesting that the killings in Southern Kaduna would persist if residents continued to attack Fulani herdsmen. He later apologised.

Highlighting some of the achievements of the President Bola Tinubu administration in Southern Kaduna, Shettima, who was addressing members of the party, said, “He [Tinubu] has shown leadership. He has shown magnanimity. He has shown the ability to reach out to the other side of the Isle and embrace all tendencies.

“Just two weeks ago, he [President Tinubu] signed the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.

“You and I know that, in terms of performance, the APC performed woefully in Southern Kaduna, but leadership is about inclusivity.”

The President Muhammadu Buhari administration was heavily criticized for its handling of the security situation in Southern Kaduna as both the State and the Federal government seemed not to have done enough to end the shedding of blood.
