1 Dead, 9 Injured as 2-storey Building Collapses in Lagos

A tragic building collapse in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State has left one person dead and nine others injured.

The  2-storey structure, which was under construction, gave way on Monday afternoon near the Ota-Ona junction.

According to eyewitness accounts, several individuals were working on the site when the building suddenly collapsed, trapping some beneath the rubble.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.

He stated that the agency received distress alerts at 2:02 p.m., prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response teams from Agbowa and Alausa.

“Upon the arrival of LASEMA’s Tiger and Lion Response Teams at 2:40 p.m., it was discovered that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed, with three victims trapped under the debris,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

Rescue operations led to the successful evacuation of nine individuals from the wreckage.
