Buhari, Akpabio Mourn Tragic Death of 22 Kano Athletes

He noted that the quick sequence of the occurrence of the tragedies have left many in shock.

Former Nigeria’s President, Muhammad Buhari, says he is devastated over the recent tragedies in Niger and Kano states.

In a statement on his official X handle on Sunday, Buhari mourned the death of 151 Mokwa residents, following an unstoppable flood, and the passing of 22 Kano athletes en route Kano from Ogun state.

He noted that the quick sequence of the occurrence of the tragedies have left many in shock.

According to Buhari, “I am deeply pained by the loss of lives due to the floods in Niger state and the road accident in Kano state. The deaths are painful and devastating.”

He consoled with the families of the breaved as he prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead.

“Condolences to the families and friends of all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” Buhari added.

Also expressing his sadness over the Kano athletes death, Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio described it is a tragic loss.

In a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio sent his condolences to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf and the families of the bereaved.

He said, “It is with profound sadness that I received the news of the tragic death of over 20 members of the Kano State contingent that participated in the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

“On behalf of my family, constituents, the Nigerian Senate and the entire National Assembly, I extend my deepest condolences to Your Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the government, and people of Kano State.

The Senate President added that the tragic loss is a reminder to cherish lives.

“This devastating loss is a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of our citizens, particularly our youth. We stand in solidarity with the families of the deceased and pray for their swift healing and comfort during this difficult time,” Akpabio added.
