Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for assaults on officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, warning that anyone found guilty of such attacks will face the full weight of the law.

The governor, who his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, represented, gave the assurance on Tuesday at the Second Lagos Traffic Conference, held in celebration of LASTMA’s 25th anniversary.

Themed “Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations,” the conference marked a major milestone for the state agency tasked with managing road traffic.

Sanwo-Olu paid tribute to the dedication and resilience of LASTMA officers who he said continued to work under difficult and sometimes life-threatening conditions to maintain traffic order across Lagos.

“I want to specially commend the men and women of LASTMA whose unwavering commitment ensures that Lagos keeps moving.

“Your uniform stands as the thin yellow line between road order and chaos. Your courage, professionalism, and resilience are at the heart of traffic safety in our city,” the governor said.

He also honoured officers who had lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices would never be forgotten.

Looking to the future, Governor Sanwo-Olu outlined his administration’s vision for transforming LASTMA into a technology-driven agency capable of addressing the evolving complexities of urban mobility.

According to him, the state government will continue to invest in advanced traffic technologies, including Artificial Intelligence-based systems, automated number plate recognition tools, and drone surveillance.

These innovations, he said, would enhance traffic flow, improve real-time monitoring, and strengthen incident response mechanisms across Lagos.
