Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has said the club was not prepared to play in European competitions such as the Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League this season.
The former Sporting CP boss said his team needed time to build a base and play among Europe’s top clubs.
Manchester United finished last season in fifteenth position and also blew up the chance to play in the Champions League by falling 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Europa League.
Amorim, as quoted by Sky Sports, said his boys are not ready to play in Europe.
“I think we were not prepared to play in Europe. That is my feeling.”
“To have strong games in the Champions League and then play in the Premier League, we need time to develop as a team. We need time to prepare for every game.”
Ruben Amorim’s men will play Grimsby Town at Blundell Park the English Football League Cup on Wednesday.
