Former Senator Shehu Sani says the order removing police officers from VIP escorts is a “good idea and good policy statement” because of the country’s urgent security needs.

He, however, fears it will only begin and end up as a statement.

He was reacting to President Tinubu’s directive on Sunday, ordering the withdrawal of all police officers protecting VIPs.

According to Tinubu, anyone who needs protection should now “request from the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps.”

President Tinubu has also approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional officers to boost security nationwide.

However, Shehu Sani is skeptical on the implementation of the VIP police withdrawal.
