Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, presiding over former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s fundamental human rights enforcement suit, has withdrawn from the case, citing impending leave.
The case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court for reassignment to another judge.
The suit, filed at the FCT High Court, challenges alleged violations of El-Rufai’s fundamental rights, including actions by agencies such as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
El-Rufai in the suit pointed to the invasion of his Abuja residence, as well as involvement of other bodies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and Department of State Services, DSS, in ongoing legal matters against him.
With Justice Belgore’s withdrawal, proceedings in the fundamental rights case are on hold until the FCT Chief Judge reassigns it to another judge.
