2027: Wike Compares PDP Defectors to Peter Obi

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has compared individuals who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to Mr Peter Obi.

Wike stated that Obi ran for president in 2023 on the Labour Party’s platform, but instead of helping to restore the party during its internal conflict, he defected to another party.

Wike, speaking at his own faction’s PDP National Convention on Sunday, claimed that this demonstrated Obi’s lack of leadership qualities.

“I liken those who defected from the PDP to the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party; they lack leadership traits,” Wike said.

“The former candidate of the Labour Party wanted to be president. The Labour Party gave him the platform, but when a crisis came in the Labour Party, and he was supposed to show leadership, he ran away because he could not solve the problems,” he said.

Wike’s faction of the PDP went ahead with their national convention on Sunday despite a case at the Supreme Court over the ruling of the Appeal Court that nulify the Oyo national convention by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the party backed by Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde.

Wike has maintained that the PDP would not produce a presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, but would support the second term of President Bola Tinubu who appointed him as the FCT Minister.
