The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, in the sum of N200 million.

In a ruling on Tuesday, Justice Muhammad Umar ordered Sowore to produce two sureties. One of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community, while the other must own landed property in Abuja.

The court also directed that the sureties be verified by the prosecution.

In addition, Justice Umar ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the deputy chief registrar of the court pending the determination of the case.

Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services, DSS, over allegations that he made false claims against President Tinubu by describing him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.

At the close of proceedings on June 24, the court fixed June 30 for the continuation of the matter, with expectations that arguments and pending applications may be further addressed when the case resumes.

The court had also revoked the bail earlier granted to Sowore on self-recognition in December 2025 and ordered his remand in the Kuje Correctional Centre following his absence at the previous proceedings.
