The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has urged Nigerians to pray for President Bola Tinubu, saying the country is in serious trouble.
Sowore made the call while reacting to the President’s planned trip to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage.
He compared Tinubu’s planned journey to the experience of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who travelled abroad for medical treatment before proceeding to Saudi Arabia during his time in office.
In a statement, Sowore alleged that Tinubu’s repeated trips abroad had raised concerns about his health and ability to discharge his presidential responsibilities.
He also claimed that Nigeria was facing a serious situation, urging citizens to pay attention to developments surrounding the President’s foreign travels.
The Presidency had announced that Tinubu would depart Abuja on Thursday for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah and pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and progress.
According to the Presidency, the President is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the religious exercise.
Sowore’s comments come amid renewed public debate over the President’s health and foreign trips. However, his claims about Tinubu’s health have not been independently verified.
