The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, over their political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike said Nigerians were aware that Atiku failed to make a significant impact when he served as vice president, while Obi had nothing to offer the country.
The minister made the remarks on Thursday during his monthly media chat in Abuja.
He also questioned the chances of opposition candidates in a possible presidential runoff against President Bola Tinubu.
Wike said: “Nigerians know that Atiku and co have been given the opportunity and they did not do anything. Nigerians know that the former governor of Rivers State looted our state. Nigerians know that Obi has nothing to offer. You were there when Soludo opened a can of worms.”
The FCT minister also mentioned former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, acknowledging his popularity in the North but questioning the extent to which it could translate into votes nationwide.
He recalled that Kwankwaso contested the 2023 presidential election and won Kano State and some other northern states.
Wike’s comments come amid political alignments and disagreements among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
