Adefuye Says Buhari’s Visit to Obama will Improve Relations with U.S., Economy

Nigeria’s Ambassador and Head of Missions in the United States of America, Professor Ade Adefuye, has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit will bring about an improvement in the quality of relations between Nigeria and the United States, strengthen relationship and renewed commitment to protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity in terms of stopping the offense of Boko Haram as well as diversifying Nigeria’s economy.

Fielding questions from newsmen in Washington DC shortly before the arrival of President Buhari at the Joint Base Andrews International Airport, Washington DC.

He said the commitment of Nigeria to the development of the democratic process, rule of law and good governance is also important to America.

Adefuye expressed optimistimism that by the end of the visit, many political watchers will see concrete steps towards achieving those objectives.

According to him, Nigeria is the largest trading partner with America and will want to maintain that.

He said America would want to see a shift of the emphasizes from oil to non oil export,agriculture,power,infrastructure and solid materials and all the things that will help Nigeria to diversify.

According to him, America wants to see a world where there will be consultations than confrontations “that also is the objective of Nigeria and the two have to compliment each other”.
