AFCON Qualifiers: Victor Collins Earns National Team Call-up

Nasarawa United FC’s central defender, Victor Collins, has been called up to Nigeria’s Senior Men’s National Football Team, the Super Eagles, as they prepare for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Collins, a standout talent in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), is the only home-based player in the Super Eagles’ 23-man squad selected by Coach Augustine Eguavoen for the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will face Benin Republic away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, followed by a home game against Rwanda on Monday, November 18, 2024. Collins’ inclusion is viewed as a milestone for Nasarawa United, whose management and fans have followed his career with pride.

“Victor’s defensive strength, awareness, and leadership on the field have been instrumental in our success this season,” said Nasarawa United Chairman Solomon Babanjah. “We’re immensely proud to see him represent Nigeria on this international stage. It’s a significant step for both his career and our club.”

Collins had previously been invited to Team B of the Super Eagles alongside teammates Anas Yusuf, the league’s top scorer, and goalkeeper Mohammed Galadima. His solid performances during training camps leading up to the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Qualifiers caught the eye of the Super Eagles’ technical team. “This achievement reflects his commitment and passion for football,” Babanjah added.

Nasarawa United’s management lauded the support from the Nasarawa State Government and Governor Abdullahi Sule, whose enthusiasm for sports has bolstered the team’s drive for success. “The governor’s backing has been crucial for our progress. His support inspires us to achieve our mandate and uplift the club,” Babanjah noted.
