Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Monday said ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, would have taken the glory if he had supported the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to win in 2023.

Wike made the claim during his monthly press briefing in Abuja on Monday.

“In 2023, he (Amaechi) came and said he was going to support Atiku in PDP.

“Thank God we did not support PDP, if we had supported PDP and they won, he would have taken the glory.

“We said okay, we won’t support PDP and they didn’t get up to 10 percent,” Wike said.

During the 2023 presidential election, Wike who is a member of the PDP, worked against Atiku.

Wike’s problem with Atiku started during the build-up to the 2023 presidential election when the party zoned its ticket to the North. Wike and other southern governors insisted that the party can’t zone the national chairman and presidential ticket to the North.

Wike had maintained that PDP should zone its presidential ticket to the South in the interest of fairness and equity.

The party’s refusal led Wike to support President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
