A boat laden with 26 passengers capsized on Wednesday at the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, killing 16 passengers.
The ill-fated boat was said to have taken off from Ebute-Ero jetty on the Lagos Island and was heading to Majidun Jetty at Ikorodu when it was upturned by waves.
Confirming the incident, Public Relations Officer, NEMA South-west, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said the boat capsized between Eko Bridge and Ikorodu waterways.
He said at the end of the rescue operation, a total of 22 persons were rescued alive. Hours later, 8 of the survivors died too, while 6 remains missing.
