Armed Robbers Kill 74-year-old Farmer in Delta, Disappear with His Motorcycle

Suspected armed robbers operating in Igbodo community in Ika North East local government area of Delta State, in the early hours of Friday, killed a 74-year-old farmer identified as Sunday Amaechi, and disappeared with his motorcycle.

The victim’s corpse  was discovered by some villagers who were on their way to their farms.

Police commissioner in the state, Anthony Agbidi, who confirmed the killing of the farmer to newsmen in Asaba, disclosed that the police would arrest any suspect as efforts were intensified to fish out the perpetrators.

CP Anthony Agbidi said: “the police are investigating the incident but no arrest has been made, reports indicated that the armed robbers after allegedly killing the farmer right inside his farm land made away with his motorcycle.

“Investigation is on going while the corpse of the victim has been deposited at Umunede General hospital mortuary for autopsy; the police will leave no stone unturned to ensure the arrest of the Suspects”, he also said.

Sources alleged that there has been strange killings of persons within Agbor, Igbodo, and Umunede communities, a situation that has heightened fear of the unknown among it’s residents in the last few months.

But CP Anthony Agbidi speaking further said the police were working hard to ensure the hoodlums were brought to book “sooner than later”.

A member of the Sunday Amaechi’s family, who did not want his name mentioned, said, the deceased was married with five children but had problem with their mother who allegdly packed out before he was dastardly Killed.

Meanwhile, the police Command in the state has confirmed the arrest of a middle-aged man identified as Sunday Kelechi for allegdly stealing a three-year-old boy in Umunede on Thursday.

CP Anthony Agbidi who confirmed the arrest of the suspect said the three-year-old boy while playing outside the parents’ house, was lured with a gift by the suspect before taking him, unfortunately he was caught by an old woman who later alerted the police.

This led the police to swing into action on intelligence to arrest him in a hideout somewhere in the bush where he was negotiating with his gang members on what to do with the boy adding that unfortunately his gang members escaped and he was caught.

According to the police boss, “the suspect is helping the police with investigation, while the police are working hard to bring to book the fleeing suspects, while the suspect has made useful statements to the police and investigation ongoing”.
