The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has paid tribute to Senator Isaiah Chawai Balat who died on Tuesday at the age of 61 years, saying Nigeria has lost one of its finest politicians.
Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, said on Wednesday that the late presidential adviser was a true nationalist who lived a life of dedication to the cause of Nigeria’s unity and development.
In a statement signed by Governor Aliyu’s spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo, the Forum described the late Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain as a loyal party man, a distinguished parliamentarian and a worthy servant who stood on the side of the people at all times.
The forum said from Balat’s days as a minister in the cabinet of former President Olusegun Obasanjo through his election into the Senate, to his last appointment as Special Adviser (Special Duties) in the office of the Vice President, the late politician remained with the people.
“We are therefore consoled that the virtues of hard work, honesty and selfless service which characterised the life and times of late Senator Balat will remain with us,” the forum said.
The forum prayed God to grant repose to the soul of the departed and grant the people of Kaduna State and members of his immediate family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
