Some top officials of the Bayelsa State Government will on Friday take part in a sensitization workshop on drug abuse and other illicit substances.
The workshop which is scheduled to hold at the University of Africa, Toru-Orua in Sagbama local government area is meant to educate and orientate youths and students in the state on the menace of drug abuse.
The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson indicated his interest to attend the program after he was presented with a formal invitation by the organizers, African Student Union Parliament.
Iworiso-Markson who commended the students for the initiative, said the workshop will help to reduce the prevalence of drug abuse in the state and called for massive attendance.
The Information Commissioner who underscored the restoration government’s determination to reorient the minds of youths against the abuse of hard drugs, disclosed that he will be attending the event alongside some of his colleagues.
He also reiterated his commitment to work with youth groups and the student community to stamp out the menace of substance abuse and cultism which he attributed as a major reason for the rise in criminal activities in the state.
