The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson has thrown his weight behind the Spelling Bee Bayelsa competition, describing it as laudable.
The commissioner while receiving the organizers of the competition, Creative Xpressions International said it will help the literacy capacity of students in primary and secondary schools in the state.
He commended them for the initiative and called on well meaning Bayelsans to identify with the competition by supporting it in different forms.
Iworiso-Markson noted that the competition is in line with the educational objectives of the Restoration Government to build young adults for the future, adding that no investment is worth more than education.
“For us as a government, our biggest investment is in education. As His Excellency will always say, it is in vain that we will build roads and bridges and all that without educating the human mind. So it is critical to invest in education.
“For me I am excited about this competition because it will bring out the talents we have in our children. Hidden talents that we don’t know. So I commend you for organizing It.
The Commissioner pledged the support of his father’s foundation, The Robert Sunday Iworiso foundation to sponsor some schools in Ogbia local government to be part of the competition.
Earlier the Programme Lead of Creative Xpressions International, Ebidenyefa Tarila Nikade told the commissioner that the aim of the competition is to provide a platform for school age children in the state to engage in mentally taxing activities.
She thanked the Bayelsa State Government for its interest in education and also appreciated the commissioner for always supporting lofty ideas.
