The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has advised public officers to be thorough in completing asset declaration forms in line with the anti-corruption mandate of the bureau.
The bureau’s Director in Oyo State, Mr Bolaji Amao, gave the advice during a one-day training and sensitisation progreamme held in Ibadan on Thursday.
The training was organised the CCB for members of staff of the state Ministry of Finance on the Assets and Liabilities Declaration form.
Amao said that public officers represent the face of government and must therefore adhere strictly to laid-down rules and guidelines in the discharge of their duties.
According to him, corruption goes beyond financial misappropriation, thus unethical practices such as absenteeism also constitute corrupt behaviour.
He said that the bureau required all public officers to declare their assets, liabilities, income, and interests through the prescribed forms to ensure compliance with the CCB and Code of Conduct Tribunal Act.
He said that asset declaration was mandatory, stressing that the bureau receives and examines submitted forms, as well as petitions and complaints.
The director further stated that the bureau, which was established under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), was to ensure integrity and discipline among public officers.
He outlined the bureau’s core mandates to include asset declaration, verification of submissions, investigation of breaches, and referral of violations to the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
He added that the CCB also promotes ethical standards, prevents corruption, and upholds constitutional provisions aimed at building public trust.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akinola Ojo, urged public officers to regard the CCB as a vital institution that safeguards transparency and ensures the proper use of public funds.
Ojo emphasised that the bureau renders critical service to the nation by promoting accountability and transparency in public service.
He urged public officers to take the CCB Asset Declaration forms seriously and ensure accurate and honest completion of it to prevent complications in future.
The commissioner also advised members of staff of the ministry to take the training with the utmost seriousness it deserves and
engage actively by asking questions and seeking clarification where necessary.
