Fifteen members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been taken out in Jere council area of Borno state by Nigerian troops.
The Cherry news filtered in this evening from the North-east theatre of operation when the ISWAP terrorists tried to walk over Chabbal
area of Jere.
Resultantly, two gun trucks and some other weapons were captured while some gun-trucks were destroyed by troops of the Nigerian Army.
The gallant troops, who dealt decisive blow on the insurgents around Chabbol area have since restored calm to the area.
Meanwhile calm has been restored in Maiduguri and parts of Konduga council areas as desperate ISWAP members tried penetrating the city Saturday night.
Loud explosions and gunshots were heard infiltrating the city from around Jimtilo axis of the entrance into Maiduguri which houses a very large population including the Borno state University.
Trouble started at about 16:22 hours on Saturday, when loud explosions and gunshots were heard occurring around 333 artillery barracks on the way to Jimtilo.
Residents around 777 Estate, 1000 Estate and Jimtilo general areas took to their heels as the aggressors approached the general area.
Credible intel sources later told metrowatchonline.com that the terrorists who came in their hundreds were desperate to get through Jimtilo and across to the Barracks to make more trouble.
But luck ran out for them as they were stopped and the attack repelled while back ups came from several angles including the Super Camp along Gubio Road to crush the insurgents.
Tension and pandemonium amongst residents increased such that some were seen trekking towards the city centre to squat in homes of known relatives till Sunday afternoon when some returned home.
It is always a traditional practice for the insurgents wether Boko Haram or ISWAP to launch attacks on the city whenever a Muslim public holiday is heralded but again they were repelled following overwhelming fire power from the troops of the Nigerian Army
The Rapid Response Squad were seen conducting normal patrol along the Maiduguri Damaturu stretch on Monday afternoon even as civilian commuters went about their business peacefully along the axis of the attack.
