Businessman Offers University Scholarship to Students in Ebonyi

A businessman based in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, Mr Tobias Nwofia, weekend awarded university scholarship to two students from Eguho-Ezzagu community in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

Chairman of the screening committee, David Nwele, said the two recipients, Jonathan Nwekpa and Kosara Igwe, met all the requirements for the award of the scholarship.

Nwele noted that part of the conditions of the scholarship was that the recipients would always present evidence of their semester results to enable them access their funds.

Presenting the cash gift presided by the chairman of Ishielu local government, Hon. Sunday Eze, the Initiator and National Leader of Eguho Youths, Tobias Nwele said he was poised to complement the good efforts of the state governor, David Umahi and the Council chairman in delivering essential services to the people.

Nwofia noted that the scholarship would run throughout the four years of their university education, adding that his Foundation has earmarked money that would carter for the project.

He advocated that people should not always hope on government on everything, as the work of nation building should be the collective efforts of the people.

The philanthropist said the scholarship was a show of gratitude to the state governor and Council chairman to continue to deliver on their people oriented agenda, declaring unalloyed supports to the present administration in the state.

He said: “today, two persons have been chosen for this scholarship. We will be giving them one hundred thousand naira each annually throughout their four years in the university. They beneficiaries were carefully and sincerely chosen.

“We brought this idea so as to complement the good works of our governor, David Umahi and the chairman of Ishielu local government, Hon. Sunday Eze whose achievements have become a reference point. It’s high time everybody thinks on how to contribute to the development of the state. We should not hope of government all the time.

“Our governor has done well and I want to use this token of scholarship to express my gratitude to him. If a leader has done well, you need to appreciate him. We want to assure him that Ezzagu community is with him. He should always count on our support. We will prove to him how sincere we are to his reelection in 2019 by voting him massively, Nwofia said.

The council chairman said he was overwhelmed with the kind feature, urging other individuals to emulate the Initiator for the development of the society.

Eze noted that the state governor has performed creditably because he had blocked all the financial loopholes in the state, and all the resources accruing to it have been channeled to the development of this state.
