Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been knocked out of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-final on Sunday.
The defending champions went into the encounter with hopes of reaching the semi-finals and continuing their title defence after an impressive 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final group game.
The Falcons had scored nine goals in the group stage but faced a tough test against a Cameroon side that had remained unbeaten in the tournament.
The encounter was another chapter in the long-standing rivalry between both countries, with Nigeria historically dominating their meetings at the continental championship.
However, Cameroon produced the decisive moment to secure victory and send the Super Falcons crashing out of the competition.
The defeat also ends Nigeria’s hopes of retaining the continental title and represents a major setback for the Falcons, who had been among the favourites to win the tournament.
Cameroon’s victory means the Indomitable Lionesses advance to the semi-finals, while Nigeria will now turn their attention to regrouping ahead of their next international assignments.
