A former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that political leaders coming together to form the anti-Tinubu coalition are all focused on a single target.

According to El-Rufai, Nigeria is targeted for destruction by a collection of urban bandits.

El-Rufai stated this during an interview on Arise News on Monday evening, saying he feels empowered and encouraged by the leadership’s attitude.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said that no one among the leaders of the coalition “is talking about his aspiration” at least for now.

He said, “Well, I’m sure they would [talk about aspiration later] I mean, we are politicians, we are students of power.

“So yes, they will do that, but nobody is talking about, ‘I want to be the president or, you know, leave this for me’ and so on.

“Everybody is saying, ‘we have a problem. This country is targeted for destruction by a collection of urban bandits. Let’s come together, send them back home and put this country back on track.’

“It is about fixing the country. Nobody is talking about his ambition, and that has been very good so far. And I’m encouraged.”

El-Rufai, one of the key figures that supported and worked for Tinubu’s emergence as president in 2023 has now left the All Progressives Congress, APC, and joined the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

He is also a leading member of the anti-Tinubu coalition and has insisted that there was no way the former Lagos State Governor would return to the presidential villa after the 2027 election.
