A Port Harcourt Magistrate Court has remanded Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt, in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Justina Otuene.

Okoligwe reportedly murdered his former lover, a 300-level student in the same university’s Biochemistry Department.

Yesterday, when the subject came up in court for the plea, the prosecuting counsel asked the court to remand the accused due to the seriousness of the offense.

The prosecution’s submission was not challenged by the defense attorney, O.G. Nweke.

After hearing both counsels in the case, the trial Chief Magistrate, Nnenda Obiageri-Onugbum, decided that the accused, Okoligwe, be detained in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.

The Magistrate further directed that the case file be forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.

Obiageri-Onugbum, on the other hand, delayed the case till the DPP report on December 15, 2023.
