A Family court in Benin on Tuesday remanded a man, Jimoh Imade, 47, in Oko Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a minor.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adamaigbo Dorothy remanded the defendant in prison and adjourned the case until May 30, for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ifidon Daniel, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 6, 2019, at Egba community in Uhumwode Local Government Area of Edo.
He told the court that the defendant unlawfully defiled the 11-year-old girl but was arrested by the police.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the one charge of defilement.
According to the prosecution, the offence contravenes Section 218 of the Criminal Code , Cap 48,Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel state of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.
The police Prosecutor objected to the defence counsel’s bail application on the grounds that the offence was not bailable.
