A former acting governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sam Obi, is dead. He died today in Asaba, the state capital, of undisclosed circumstance.
Until his death, he was the General Overseer of Oracle of God Ministry, Asaba.
The former acting governor, who hailed  from Ute-Okpu in the state’s Ika North-East Local Government Area, was last seen on Wednesday, March 31 2021, at a public event, the Maris Trust Council’s Annual lecture, which was held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
Sam Obi became acting governor of the state when the Appeal Court in Benin City nullified the election of former governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, and ordered a re-run in 2010.
Obi was then Speaker of the state House of Assembly before becoming acting governor, following the impeachment of the previous Speaker, Martin Okonta.
Obi served in the House of Representatives for the Ika North-East constituency until 2015, but did not seek re-election after two terms.
Obi was named Special Adviser at the start of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration, a post that was not renewed in 2019 following Okowa’s re-election for a second term.
