A UK medical tribunal has heard how Dr Suhail Anjum, a consultant anaesthetist at Tameside Hospital in Greater Manchester, abandoned a patient under anaesthetic during surgery to engage in sexual activity with a nurse in a nearby theatre.
During proceedings, it was revealed that Dr Anjum had requested a short “comfort break” midway through the operation, leaving a colleague in charge of monitoring the patient. Instead of returning promptly, he allegedly met with a nurse, identified as Nurse C, in another room, where they were discovered in a compromising situation by another staff member, who subsequently reported the matter.
