Theatre Commander (TC), Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Chris Musa, has commended the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for donating Medical equipments to the hospital of the 7division of the Nigerian Army.
General Musa gave the commendation Wednesday while receiving some first class equipment from the commission which he noted will go a long way in assisting the medical needs of his troops.
The TC however regretted that the Army medical unit has been working under very high tension managing the much they have in terms of equipment with no referral hospital on ground for them to manage wounded troops which is why most of the time critical cases are rushed to the referral hospital in far away Kaduna, instead.
“Let me assure you that the equipment will be maintained and utilized for the purpose it was meant.
“Actually the kinetic aspect of this war has taken its toll on us but we have been trying our best in the medical almost turning the hospital to a referral centre.
On the increase in the number of insurgents, General Musa stated that over 67,000 insurgents have defected into the State capital and are now housed in three camps which is why there is need to build a new camp to avoid congestion and ensure that the non combatants within the group are stable.
He said that they have been doing their best to ensure that troops can work effectively to ensure that the war is ended as soon as possible.
” The disarmament deradicalization and reintegration program has not really started because we are hoping to open another camp to accommodate the anticipated defectors.
“The state government has also been supportive to the program and we are doing our best from here to ensure that the non combatants among them do not suffer unnecessarily.
“We have been able to remove over 150 IEDs from February to June this year alone. And that is why our greatest challenge now is the bad roads.
“As a matter of fact, if roads are fixed at least 65 percent of our problems will be solved because it’s the terrible nature of the roads that is affecting the job.
“We also need accommodation for the troops. We would be coming to you over this soon because most of our troops do not have good accommodation. Some even share households with married people and that doesn’t sound proper,” said the TC.
Representative of the Minister of Humanitarian affairs, and permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Sani Gwazo, also commended the military for the peace and stability they have brought to the entire North East region and even the Borno state capital.
He assured that the ministry will get the commission to rehabilitation the Maiduguri Damboa road which has suffered lingering neglect for so long now.
Managing Director of the Commission Mohammed Alkali assured that the commission will continue to collaborate with the military in any way their request is defined.
