*Freetown, Sierra-Leone

By Sam Kayode
Several residents are feared killed as a trailer carrying a 40ft container was said to have lost control after suffering a brake failure and falling on the busy street traders.
The big trailer was said to be traversing Abacha street East end of Freetown Thursday evening when the container fell off its carrier truck crushing several people to death.
Reliable sources told this reporter on phone that the container fell off precisely at the crowded arena of street traders at Abacha street just after Eastern police station leaving many lives terminated in the process.
” Many people have lost their lives as at 7pm local time in Freetown Thursday after the container fell on them and we are still trying to get the exact number of the dead from the bottom of the heavy vehicle. ” said our source.
Meanwhile, the government has called on the residents of the city to stay calm and go and check on their  relatives who may have survived and may need medical help.
Abacha street is a major trading hub for commercial activities in the Eastern part of Freetown very close to the Eastern police station and mountain cut.
The Government tried several times to stop street trading on this street which is the largest in the capital but it has always been resisted by the residents of the area who alleged that they have never been given a suitable option to get their daily bread.
