Incumbent governor of Edo State and candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has wonSaturday’s governorship election held in the state.
With results from 18 of the 18 local government areas announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obaseki scored clear majority in 13 leaving his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, trailing with 5 councils.
With this result, Obaseki has equally emerged Edo’s Biblical David that used a single stoke to kill the tormenting enemy of the children of Israel, Goliath!
The modern day Goliath in the Edo situation are the former National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; the Benin billionaire and self-confessed sponsor of the APC candidate, Capt. Hosa Okunbo; and the party’s flag bearer, Ize-Iyamu.
Obaseki has killed the trio, politically speaking though, with just one stone, the last Saturday’s election!
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo, Mr Johnson Alalibo, announced Prof. Akpofure Rem-Rukeh, Vice-Chancellor, University of Petroleum Resources, Effuru, Delta, as the Returning Officer, who then announce the results.
He also said: “This is final stage of the election and I urge you to be calm, if you have any protest we will recognise you to speak,” he said.
