EDO 2024 | APC Demands Apology from Betsy Obaseki over ‘Controversial’ Remarks at PDP Rally | METROWATCH

Press Statement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) New Media Directorate condemns in the strongest terms the recent disgraceful remarks made by the First Lady of Edo State, Betsy Obaseki.

Her comments, in which she mockingly suggested that only the PDP candidate has a wife, were not just an affront to our esteemed candidate, Most distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, but a direct insult to the collective dignity of Edo citizens.

Such tasteless and insensitive rhetoric is unbecoming of someone who holds a position of influence and responsibility in our state. Edo people are known for their deep respect for culture, values, and integrity, and we find it shocking that the First Lady would stoop so low as to undermine the respect and honor we hold for all individuals, regardless of their marital status.

Marriage is a personal choice and should not be weaponized as a political tool to belittle or shame anyone. The First Lady’s comments are not only offensive but also reflect a gross misunderstanding of what leadership entails. Her words have caused unwarranted embarrassment and have stirred unnecessary discord among our peace-loving people.

We, therefore, demand an immediate and unreserved public apology from Betsy Obaseki to the people of Edo State. The First Lady must acknowledge the harm her reckless words have caused and take full responsibility for this disgraceful behavior.

In Edo, we value respect, honor, and decency—qualities that seem to be sorely lacking in this current administration. We urge all well-meaning Edo citizens to reject such divisive tactics and stand together in the pursuit of a leadership that truly represents the values we hold dear.

The APC remains committed to running an issue-based campaign focused on addressing the pressing needs of our people, and we will not be distracted by the crass and petty politics emanating from the PDP.

Edo deserves better.
