The Diaspora Friends for Monday and Dennis have congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and winner of the Edo State Governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes to beat his closest opponent, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 247,274 votes in the election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday evening.
The diaspora group, in a statement through its convener, Ambassador Western Iyamu, hailed the people of Edo State for reposing confidence in Senator Okpebholo and his deputy governor-elect, Hon. Dennis Idahosa.
Ambassador Iyamu also commended INEC and law enforcement agencies for displaying a high level of professionalism and for ensuring that law and order prevailed during the Edo state governorship election.
He urged the Governor- elect to see his election as a call to serve, urging him to implement people-oriented programmes and policies that would bring progress and prosperity to the people.
The statement reads in part, “We at the Diaspora Friends extend our heartfelt congratulations to our newly elected Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo and our Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa.
“The good people of Edo state have spoken with their votes and expressed their confidence in the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. It is a clarion call to serve.”
Amb. Iyamu praised Okpebholo and the leadership of the APC for the resilience and determination that led to the return of the party to power in Edo state, while commending the peaceful and orderly conduct of the people during the polls.
The group prayed for God’s guidance for the Edo state Governor-elect to pilot the affairs of the state into a new chapter of development.
“Your leadership inspires us all, and we eagerly anticipate the positive changes you will bring to our state. Together, let’s forge a brighter future,” the statement concluded.
